DESCRIPTION: Substitute teach in Adult Education classes, including English as a Second Language (ESL), HSE test preparation. Follow teacher’s lesson plan and use own “tool kit”, engaging all students in learning. Substitute teachers are needed in Adult Education classes in the morning, afternoon and evening, and in 20 locations throughout Oakland.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide a safe learning environment for adult students
- Facilitate classroom instruction, including student use of technology and blended learning.
- Complete and submit all required data and accountability documentation.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid non-emergency California teaching credential authorizing instruction to adults in the subject area. (Community college credential is not acceptable.)
- Experience in Adult Education preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge and ability to facilitate blended learning.
- Demonstrated ability to engage all students in learning
- Essential for applicant to be nurturing and skillful in inspiring confidence.
- Demonstrated ability to be accurate and timely in submitting required paperwork to the school office.
- Ability to work in a team of teachers, staff, and administration.

Important Information Regarding the Basic Skills Requirement:
- On June 29, 2024, Governor Gavin Newsom signed a budget trailer bill, SB 153 (Chap. 38, Statutes of 2024), that allows candidates to use their bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education (IHE) as demonstration of the basic skills requirement, effective immediately.
