Teacher on Special Assignment (10- Month) - This position's compensation is based on the 10-month teacher schedule, but carries an additional stipend.

 

This 10-mo Teacher on Special Assignment position will support the development of the Black Thriving Schools Initiative as part of OUSD’s Reparations for Black Students Resolution

 

Core projects and engagement activities may include:

 

  • Developing and implementing a site-based needs and asset assessment plan.

  • Conduct a bi-annual visioning process 

    • Collaborating with the Black Thriving Schools Task Force to ensure individual sites meet their focal indicators.

    • Working with the leadership team to establish goals, work plans, and identify learning priorities for African American students.

    • Supporting the overall development of the school site as a  Community School.

  • Using the site vision and plan, TSA will support classroom collaboration teams with incorporating the vision into classroom instruction.

  • Analyze and increase Black parent engagement in site-based decision making

  • Attending regular meetings of the Black Thriving Schools Task Force

  • Model best instructional practices, methods, materials, and technology that increase African American student achievement, through classroom demonstrations or side-by-side coaching

  • Performs other related duties as may be assigned.

 

All work to support Black students should be grounded in the goals, strengths, and needs that students (and their families) identify. We are seeking a TSA that will effectively:

  • Model and support the use of effective teaching and classroom management strategies that lead to increased African American student achievement

  • Participate in the evaluation of student work, both formative and summative, for the purpose of utilizing assessment results to drive instructional planning and promote student growth and achievement

  • Ensure positive social-emotional and academic outcomes for African American students

Overall, this TSA position is to build the capacity of the school and its teachers to meet the learning needs of our Black students

Qualifications:

 

Candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree, must be eligible for employment in the US and pass a criminal background check. Candidates must possess a California teaching credential authorizing instruction in core curriculum.
