Oakland Unified School District is looking for creative, enthusiastic, resourceful, resilient and equity-minded Teacher-Librarians to join our team.
We interview centrally with our library staff and then look for the best fit of school sites.
We seek Teacher Librarians with emergency services credential and/or credentialed Teacher Librarians to collaborate with and support students and staff through library programming, reading promotion, effective and empowering use of social and other media, critical thinking and reading, information and digital literacy, development of school and district wide resources, and development and growth of the Library Learning Commons.
- Knowledge of collection development
- Knowledge of AASL and other school library standards and ability to implement at a school site library with direction
- Experience with instruction on information and technology literacy skills, including the research process.
- Ability to recognize and respond to the multiple needs of the diverse learners in our district.
- Collaborate with teachers in information literacy, reading promotion programs and other student centered learning
- Research, teach, and model best practices used to address the needs of those students who struggle with reading and writing.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Create culturally responsive library that values and build from students’ funds of knowledge; support the District goal of model libraries
- Create library culture at the school site, educating students and staff
- Coordinate programs and activities with community organizations to provide equitable access to all students
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid Teacher Librarian Services Credential
- A master’s degree from a program accredited by the American Library Association (or from a master’s level program in library and information studies accredited or recognized by the appropriate national body of another country) is the appropriate professional degree for school librarians.
- Valid Special Class Authorization (SCA) highly desirable
- Experience working in diverse classrooms preferred.
- Valid California Driver’s License.
